Spring for Millions of Bees and Their Bee Farmers

Honey is coming!

Almost spring in the southern hemisphere, where thousands of bee hives and wild colonies will explode into breeding and growth of larvae to take advantage of the coming spring time blossom bloom of spring flowers! [By the way, the same happens in the northern hemisphere during the spring there!]

Every year around August bees start to warm up in the southern hemisphere and they begin to lay more eggs and the queen bee becomes much more active. She slows down to about 300 eggs a day in winter to up to 2000 eggs a day in the peak of spring.

This is currently the lull before the storm of the coming spring and summer period where nature blooms profusely and the bees dance among millions of flowers!

Types also known as varietals

Bee prepared for new flow and different kinds from different types of flowers such as:

  • Aloe
  • Macadamia
  • Litchi
  • Lemon
  • Citrus
  • Sunflower
  • Blue gum
  • Multi-flora
  • Pumpkin, Lucern, watermelon and blueberry

These “flavours” are not added they are named as these variants because that is the crop, flower or tree the bees were collecting nectar from in order to store it. Citrus is made when bees collect nectar from an orange farm when it is in bloom.

Watermelon honey is when honeybees collect nectar from the flowers of watermelon plants.

Keep checking our www.realhoney.co.za shop for different flavours and variants for when they are harvested and we stock them in the store!

They are nothing like the honey you find in the shop which is all blended together from different locations, crops and just put into one big batch which makes it bland and usually it gets cooked to 70 degrees so it doesn’t ever crystallise on the shop shelves! Expensive sugar syrup!
